Rovers 2 Macclesfield Town 1 – David Bentley’s future to be decided by Wed?

Rovers bt Macc 2-1, Derbs on r/wing, Reid r/back, else expected line up. Reserves played second half, Dunny & Gally looked liked their extra training paid off with goal in each half – Gally a neat header after ripping wing play from Tony Kane @RB.

Rovers caught out at left back for Macc goal. Rovers denied blatant penalty when Aaron Doran upended in box. Treacy looked lively at left wing, Ritgers played up front.

Beer and pies sold out, 2000+ crowd so healthy turnout really. Roque, Moko & Oojer as unused subs – as per Bentley (supp injured but rumours of bids expected in hope will be settled one way or t’other before leave for Germany on Weds).

Not much to tell from tactics or performances at this stage, other than Nelsen & Samba looked less than convincing, Vogel still looks class, Brad spooned first couple of hands on, Gamst looked slightly livelier. Reserves actually looked much brighter as a team performance TBH, although still long way to go before season kicks off.

Most noteworthy point of night? Some Macc fan getting thrown out of ground, which is quite something for a pre-season game of approx 250 home fans all round. Robbie Savage made a guest appearance on the team bus with his son, good to see he still seems close to the team. That said, most of squad will live within 10 miles of that ground, Brad was probably thinking he was playing in his back garden with his first ten mins.

Gossip’s a bit thin on ground, think the idea is to get the squad together in Germany & sort any outgoings out before then, possibly only Bentley to go.

Reserve coach still to be appointed, Matthias and couple more of the coaches put the players through in-depth warm-ups, skills, touch matches before playing.

Not sure if Winterburn was there, saw Knox & Ince before kick-off in white tracky tops with another guy, though couldn’t make him out? Next game Kufstein – see ya there 😉
