Friedel, Bentley out, Villanueva in – one door closes, another opens?
So…. as if on cue, Rovers pull a peach out whilst everyone else is concentrating on the sour taste of a couple of bad apples.
As I see it, it’s simple – you can be negative and gripe about two transfers that may (or may not) happen, or be positive and look at the rabbit that Ince may have pulled out of the hat in the Chilean lad (Carlos Villanueva). For all those who think footballers can be judged on Youtube or Championship Manager, from what I’ve seen he looks exciting, full of attacking flair.
Of course, it’s a long path to succeed in the Prem, especially for overseas players that have only played on one continent, we’ve pesh weather, a dump of a town and miserable fans for him to put up with after all.
Credit to Rovers for casting their net wide, and having the nous to only take him on loan for now in case it falls flat. That said, I know most fans prefer to moan so no doubt they’ll find something wrong?
With reference to Friedel, it’s correct to indicate that he did do his own deal (i.e. no agent) in February over a cup of tea in ten mins with John Williams, but it’s naive to think there isn’t a third party involvement to justify his volte-face, so much for him stating Rovers were ‘his club’?
I don’t begrudge him taking an opportunity if offered – and anyone else is a hypocrite to propose they wouldn’t do the same in their own life – and I can’t see how we can lose TBH. If he goes, we cash in for a 37yo rather than price-match him, whereas if he stays I see no reason to why he won’t continue to give fantastic service.
Bear in mind there is a MASSIVE difference between ‘wanting to leave’ (at all costs) & being honest enough to say he would consider leaving if the right deal was put to him. Courage of convictions – as I’ve said all along, ‘wanting to leave’ means being desperate enough to do anything to go, including putting a transfer request & foregoing personal gain.
